I Miss Dance

March 22, 2016

I don't really know why exactly, but I have been super missing dance this week. I used to dance a lot. I used to dance all the time and every day a lot. And now I dance twice a week for fifty minutes in a college class full of eight girls who all grew up in different studios and don't even talk to each other. And it's weird, I hate it. I miss walking into a dance studio full of the girls that I grew up with. I miss showing up to early Monday morning dance team practices in slippers and my puffy coat. I miss gathering up into the JRC Scream Circle before performances and finally being able to lead senior warm up with some of my best friends after waiting our whole lives to do so. I miss Pilates at 9am on Saturdays followed by a entire day of rehearsals and Babs yelling at us for being lines I miss the bright red dance team lipstick being passed around in the locker room before we ran over to the football field for halftimes in the snow and hail. I miss stepping over the pile of girls in the Dancers' Workshop hallway taking a power nap before the next rehearsal block. I miss the huddle of dancers in the rotunda after school as we split up into cars to carpool to DW and made a quick stop at Hole G and Pearl Street Bagels. I miss seeing the Dance Team bus covered in colorful decorations as we headed off to State Spirit. I miss the electric energy of the red curtain opening across the stage and the loud and echoing audience applause in a theater. I miss dance. So here's a tribute to dance.
This world needs to dance more.
Love, Caitie
