Day #4: Disneyland Mondays

March 8, 2016

Mondays usually suck. But Mondays in Disneyland don't.
The weather forecast told us that there was a 100% chance for rain today so we bundled up as we left the hotel this morning. Yucky rain and windy weather usually follow the Dunlop family around on Spring Break, so we were prepared for this. It rained for like thirty seconds total all day today.
We headed straight to California Adventure to get our Fast Passes for the new ride in Cars Land and then we got in line to actually ride that ride. It rained for thirty seconds while we were waiting in line for the ride and that's all the rain there was for the day. Thank you Disneyland.
I think that the random little girl who was riding
in our car with us was the only one
ready for this photo to be taken.

Then we walked over to Toy Story Mania. When we were in Disney World a few years ago, Max (and Mama Laura) loved the ride so much that we bought the Toy Story Mania Wii game. And I figured that because I had played the Wii game a few times, I would score way higher on the ride. False. Mama Laura kicked my butt. But only by like a few points tbh. And I would make a super cute Jessie so that makes up for it right? Max is a cute Woody too I guess.
Then Hannah, Max, Mama Laura and I rode the Goofy Sky coaster that is basically a "wild mouse" style of ride. Either way, those rides make my whole body ache and hurt. Not fun.
Then we were walking down the boardwalk to go over to California Screaming and I looked up and saw someone in a cute Kappa Delta shirt. Awwww Kappa Delta, so cute. Oh it's Caitie Dinkel my Rush Twin who I love with all my heart! We even got her to take our family photo for us. Yay for KDBD sisters that help the world spin round.
The next ride that we went on was Soaring California. Soaring California is one of the coolest rides in California Adventures. It's the one where you are lifted up like in a hang glider type of thing and then fly around California. It was definitely better than flying on the Goofy coaster. After some serious convincing, we got Max onto the California Screaming ride. He was not excited for it at all and we didn't actually know if he was going to make it without throwing up. But then we saw a little girl with bows in her hair get off the ride (alive), and I think that helped a little bit. I sat right by Max and as we bucked in, I told him that if he pretended that he was Jell-o, the ride would be more fun. He just gave me a blank stare as we blasted towards the first hill.
BEFORE
DURING
And I wish that I had an after photo of Max for you, but he just played it off and we ended up riding that ride like four more times today because Max loved it so much. It was probably because of my stellar Jell-o riding advice. It was time for our Fast Passes in Cars Land so we ran (Dad walked, but the rest of us ran to keep up) back over there and got on the ride.
Then we went all the way back to California Screaming (per Max's request) and rode it two times in a row before I felt like I might die and so we went to get lunch at Flo's V8 Cafe/some random Chinese place that had Asian rice bowls and only gave you chopsticks to eat them with. I had a rough time with the chopsticks. After lunch, we went on California Screaming AGAIN and luckily no one threw up because we went on it again before riding Ariel's Undersea Adventure. Say whatever you want, the storybook rides are awesome. Then we walked around the Hollywood corner of California Adventure before I was forced to ride the Monsters Inc. ride that makes me cry because Mama Laura went RUNNING (no really, she was running) through the line because it was only a five minute wait. The Monsters Inc. ride is so sad because they have to give Boo back and it's just sad okay?! Then we went to get Minnie ears/ears on a hat and after much [in]decision making, Hannah and I finally picked some. Also, look at my cute parents...
Max was ready to head over to Disneyland to ride Space Mountain again so we park hopped over there to ride it. The parks had been pretty empty all day, so we got to take lots of selfies in the front entrance without being swarmed by strollers and people. Yay.
Then we had what Mama Laura called a "Magic Moment" when we stepped into the Buzz Lightyear ride, the employee handed us five Fast Passes to go ride Star Tours right away. Yay free things like Fast Passes and no lines, but I am not a fan of the Star Tours ride. It makes me want to curl up in a ball and throw up. But we rode it anyways because free stuff is awesome. After we had our "Magic Moment", we got back in line for Buzz Lightyear and I once again got my butt kicked by Mama Laura. It's okay, I'm just not good at video games people. But I got to take a selfie with a Storm Trooper today, so that's awesome.
Mama Laura, Hannah, and I rode the Alice in Wonderland ride while Dad and Max went to get some churros and then we all walked back over to Bengal BBQ from the other day for dinner. But Dad told me that I could eat a Dole Whip for dinner, so I did. And it was awesome. Disneyland Mondays rock. Then we decided to go ride Pirates and literally walked on the boat. Like walked through the line non stop, the little gate/doors opened, and we sat down in the boat. It took like thirty seconds. That never happens. Blessings. We rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and again almost walked right on there. It's so nice to have everyone else be in school or at work on Mondays and then have a projected 100% rainy day forecast because then you pretty much have the whole park all to yourself. When I was little, I had these Disneyland musical videos where it was like a tour of the park with music and happiness and I remember that I would always skip the part with the Haunted Mansion in it because it was really creepy and freaked me out. Well, tonight there was only a five minute wait for the Haunted Mansion and I thought that I could be super tough and yolo, so Hannah and Dad and I went on the Haunted Mansion. AND IT WAS WAY SCARY. The little girl in front of us started crying. Same. Same. Same. Never riding that one again.
Mama Laura really wanted to watch the parade, so we walked back to Main Street and plotted out a spot. When Princess Anna and Queen Elsa's float came around the corner, I was so excited/jealous/crying a little on the inside because I WANT TO BE PRINCESS ANNA MORE THAN ANYONE IN THE WORLD. I think that's my dream job really. Maybe it's my calling in life. Also, dear Disneyland, I'm a little heartbroken that there isn't an Electrical Parade any more but it's okay because I found the song on Spotify and can just pretend you still do it. Thanks.
And then because it had been super windy all day, they ended up cancelling the fireworks show which Mama Laura was way salty about but it's okay because we got to ride Space Mountain again instead. And then we rode the Monorail over to Downtown Disney and Dad and I walked back to the hotel while Mama Laura and Max went with Hannah to make her Build-A-Bear Han Solo bear. Aww so cute. I think that every Monday should be spent in Disneyland because it's way better than real life.
Love, Caitie
