One of our philanthropy organizations in Kappa Delta is Girl Scouts of the USA (the other is an organization called Prevent Child Abuse America and we do a lot of our fundraising and work with them during fall semester and what's called, "Shamrock Week"). I LOVE being able to work with the Girl Scouts and the local troop here in Logan is so cute! I am a part of the Girl Scout Committee in Kappa Delta and so I help planning the activities and get togethers that the Kappa Deltas have with the Girl Scouts, which is so fun. The activity that we planned for tonight was based off of the quote, "she believed she could so she did". I have always loved that quote and I found a cute wallpaper version of this quote on Pinterest, so that's a bonus.
For our event, we had planned out four different stations based around the house where the Girl Scouts would go and learn about different careers you could have and things like that. One of the stations was a classroom where the Girl Scouts would write letters to their future selves about their goals and dreams that they have right now and then decorate the letter's envelopes with shaving cream and food coloring that made it look marbled. Way cute. Another station was US Army themed and the Girl Scouts were going to play the game where you tie a balloon around your ankle and then run around trying to pop everyone else's balloons and keep yours inflated at the same time. Then they would decode messages and clues go on a scavenger hunt and find the missing teddy bear. We also had a Hollywood themed station where the Girl Scouts were going to create outfits out of tin foil and duct tape then they would strut their creations down the red carpet in them.
I was in charge of running the KD Hospital station (and I got to wear my scrubs- nursing student bonus). At the beginning, we would talk to the Girl Scouts about all the different careers you can have working in a hospital like being a neurosurgeon or an ambulance driver or a pediatric nurse. And then talk about some of the things that you can do to stay healthy and not have to go to the hospital like eating healthy and drinking lots of water and wearing a helmet when you're riding a bike. Then the Girl Scouts would fill out and decorate their own hospital ID bracelets and then get check-ups from the Kappa Deltas. At the end, we would let them wear our stethoscopes and listen to each others' heartbeats and breathing because that's pretty much the coolest thing ever. YOU CAN HEAR INSIDE YOUR BODY & IT'S SO COOL!

| when you're KD twins and twins in real life |
We had all these intentions of having the KD House crawling with Girl Scouts for our event tonight but didn't realize until a a few hours before the event that most of Utah schools didn't have school today and they didn't have school on Monday either- it was a long weekend. The odds of there being more than ten Girl Scouts showing up to our event just got flushed down the toilet.
Six o' clock came around and we were all at our stations hoping that maybe some Girl Scouts would still show up. At 6:15pm, this little Girl Scout named Grace came running to the door. "I'm so sorry that I'm late!" she yelled as she scrambled to take her coat and snow boots off, dropping them in the front hall before any of us could help her. Grace was the ONLY ONE who showed up to Kappa Delta for the event. So we had a Girl Scout event just for Grace. All 128 of us Kappa Delta's had a play date with Grace for two hours & it was awesome. For a quick second, we were all a little bit butthurt that we had planned this huge Girl Scout event and had taken the time to clean and organize the house, but only one Girl Scout had showed up. But guess what, in the end, it doesn't matter how many Girl Scouts show up to an event. Numbers don't matter. What really matters is that the girls who do show up leave the event feeling more confident in themselves and that they had fun. Thank you Grace the Girl Scout for coming over to our house for one of the funnest playdates I've had in a really long time.
I love, love, love the Girl Scouts.
Believe in yourself because you can do hard things.
Love, Caitie the KD
