It was Homecoming Week at USU last week! It was like high school homecoming on steroids. There was something going on all of the time and the Aggie Pride here at Utah State is insane. There was Mr. USU and volleyball games and tailgate BBQs and dance parties and Aggie Ice Cream all over the place. Go Aggies!
A huge part of Kappa Delta's philanthropy is working with the Girl Scouts and so for our Homecoming Parade on Saturday before the game they got to be on our gigantic trailer float with us which was so fun! I was never a Girl Scout (yay Activity Days) so Phoebe and Olivia taught me all about it and promised me to save me some cookies; they are pretty much my new best friends. While the Girl Scouts and some of the other Kappa Delta girls rode on our float through the street, me and a bunch of other KDs danced along side it handing out candy- and high fives for when we ran out of candy- to the people that were standing along the street. I felt like the girls in Princess Diaries 2 which was so, so, so fun. I already love Kappa Delta and the way that it encourages girls like the Girl Scouts to go out and be themselves and be confident in who they are.

the cutest trailer float ever
s/o to the Girl Scouts, Kappa Delta,
and some really loud Katy Perry music
Aggie football played (and beat (woo)) Colorado State in the pouring rain on Saturday night for homecoming. Luckily my roomies are smarter than me and brought rain coats and ponchos that were much appreciated. Inez and I ended up sharing one so she put her head through the arm hole and we stayed extra warm and cozy.
On Sunday morning, I made Hootenanny which was like the first thing I had actually made at Utah State as opposed to quesadillas or pasta (go Caitie) and so that definitely needs to be documented.
Today I really didn't want to do my homework (and obviously still am yet to do it) so I found these recipes on Pinterest for Banana Chocolate Chip bread and Pumpkin Spice Coconut granola and both are SO GOOD, ask Allie.
With General Conference being this last weekend, I just want to quickly share one of my favorite talks to close up my post. Sister Neill F. Marriott, of the Young Women's presidency, gave it (you can read it right here or watch it below).
I love the fact that Sister Marriott's talk followed another talk that talked about how centering our life on Christ is like centering our clay on the potter's wheel and how that is something that is so important for the final product of the clay. I also love in the beginning when she quotes the words of an old Protestant hymn about the potter because that was something that we talked a lot about at Quickwater Ranch this summer. One of my best friends, Kayla, who was also on the LTeam with me at Quickwater Ranch this summer, helped write the lyrics to a song called "The Potter Song" that we sing at Quickwater.
The Potter Song
Now, O Lord, the art my father
I the clay and thou my potter
I am the work of Thy hands
Lift me up and bring me higher
When through life I face the fire
Temper me O my refiner
Drawn from the heat of the forge
Shape me to Thy heart's desire
Lord the keeper of my garden
Till my soil so it won't harden
I am the fruit of Thy labor
Thank thee for Thy loving pardon
Bend me Lord, the clay and water
Quench the steel and make me stronger
Roots drink deeply drawing power
Springing up as living water
During our Potter's Fireside at Quickwater Ranch, we talked about how Heavenly Father often uses "wedging" (lining up the clay's platelets to eliminate any air and avoid cracking later or explosion in the helm) to prepare us for things that are yet to come. So sometimes it may seem that even though we are trying our very best to do good, things just are not happening the way that we would want them to. And that is okay because Heavenly Father has a plan and He knows what is best for us even though it is not what we see ourselves doing. This is something that Sister Marriott talked about too.
I loved General Conference and listen to a talk every day on my walk home from school because of a challenge our Institute teacher gave us that I want to give you too.
Challenge: listen/read/watch a Conference talk each day,
Reward: you will grow closer to your Heavenly Father and
receive the bountious blessings that He is waiting to pour upon you
